Rapid Rally Local Champions Crowned
Winners Earn Medals at Regional Competition
Detert Park was the scene for the third annual Rapid Rally Tennis Competition, part of the Junior Olympic Skills.
Rapid Rally tests how well children ages 8-13 can serve a low-compression tennis ball and continue to hit against a wall above the net line as many
times as possible in 30 seconds.
Boys 10-11: Hank Armstrong (1st), Aaron Lake (2nd)
Girls 10-11: Sarah Daly (1st), Samantha Cooper (2nd)
Boys 12-13: Justin Maciel (1st), Alex Armstrong (2nd)
Girls 12-13: Meghan Daly (1st), Tory Spence(2nd), Mikayla Hirschel (3rd)
The first place finishers advanced to the Regional Competition in West Sacramento in June, where Sarah, Justin and Meghan all earned gold and Hank brought home a silver medal.
Winners at Regionals will now have their scores ranked with thousands of competitors from across the nation to determine who will earn
an all-expenses paid trip to Chicago for the national championships. In 2006, Jackson's own
Sarah Daly earned a silver medal at nationals and she is on a repeat path this year, earning her third trip to regionals. Meghan and
Justin have also been to regionals before, but this will be the first year for Hank. Justin had the highest score of the local competition day with 24
(21 hits plus three bonus points for hitting a target on serve). Meghan put down an impressive performance at Regionals with a strong score of 26 that
should put her in the running for the National Competition!
